Remembering Ataturk's Death

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was the founder of the Republic of Turkey. That is why he is quite famous; he is also the most representative individual in the country because of his labor in favor of the nation. When he was young, Atatürk worked as Army officer. He was born in 1881 in the ottoman city of Thessaloniki. In fact, his real biography is, until now, uncertain, and a big part of his personal life is in debate among many historians. Each November 10th, people from Turkey and citizens of Istanbul commemorate his legacy.

The Remembering Ataturk's Death is one of the most important events in Istanbul and the rest of Turkey. Tourists who are visiting the city of Istanbul during this special day are able to be part of a big celebration. This festivity includes a big parade with colorful flags throughout the principal streets and avenues. In addition, the current president asks for the population two minutes of silence to respect the death of this leader. People from different parts of Turkey stop their activities in order to be part of the silence.

In addition, in the afternoon of this day, citizens gather together in the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk that is located at Ankara. One of his most important legacies is the reform in culture, politics and economic issues. Thanks to this reform, the country has improved significantly during the last decade.
