Galata Tower

The Galata Tower, also known as the tower of Christ (in Latin) or Christea Turris is a medieval stone tower and one of the most important tourist attractions in Istanbul. The Galata Tower is located in the Galata district of Istanbul, Turkey, dominating the entire city and offering a panoramic vista of Old Istanbul and its environs that attracts both locals and visitors from all over the world.

The Galata Tower The Galata Tower is about 67 meters tall, being the tallest structure in Istanbul, when it was built. The tower was built by a group of Genoese during the expansion of this colony in Constantinople; initially the tower was known as Christea Turrisand it was modified several times specially during the Ottoman period when it served as an observation tower to detect fires.

Currently, there is a luxurious restaurant at the top of the tower; of course the main attraction is the spectacular view of Istanbul, especiallyat night. There is also a Night club in which one can enjoy Turkish shows. For visitors comfort, there are also two operating elevators that carry tourists from the lower level to the upper levels.
