City Museum

City Museum - Istanbul Istanbul City Museum, Sehir Müzesi, displays a collection of items that represent the lifestyle of Istanbul during the Ottoman Period. The assortment of items was first displayed in the district of Beyazit, at the Municipality Library since 1939. They were moved to the Gazanfer Aga Complex for a short period of time in 1945 and permanently taken to the Yildiz Palace two-story Fine Arts Hall in 1988.

The collection includes:
  • 18th and 19th century porcelains from imperial workshops of Yildiz Palace along other ceramic pieces
  • Paintings depicting the Istanbul social life during the Ottoman period
  • Calligraphy panels and equipment
  • Textiles
  • Diverse glass objects
  • Utensils
  • Coffee sets
  • Seals
  • Binding forms
  • Scales, balances and weights
  • Other daily life objects

The museum portrays works of artists such as:

Visiting information
  • It opens:
    • Daily from:9am to 4pm

  • It closes:
    • On Mondays and Tuesdays

  • The museum is located in Barbaros Bulvari (Barbaros Blvd.), Yildiz – 80690, Besiktas Istanbul
